Purifying By Fire

April 30, 2019

Have you ever asked God why is it taking so long for the breakthrough I have been praying for? How much longer do I need to wait for prayers to be answered? What is happening in my life and why?

We always think things should happen quicker than they do. We live in a fast food, microwave society. A home cooked meal tastes much better than a TV dinner. But God looks at things differently than we do. He is much more concerned about our character and integrity than our feelings not getting hurt.

God uses tough stuff in life to change us, break us, and remove the sin that controls us. (Prov. 5:22) An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. The Bible says we will go through trials and tests. Yes, there are times we are put to the test. I am not saying God puts sickness and disease on people, but He does allow us to go through trials. He compares this to Gold. (1 Pet. 1:7) That the genuineness of your faith being more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

When gold is being purified it has to go through testings of fire. Refining metal by fire removes the impurities and purifies the gold. The metal is first placed in a fire that reaches 1,947.52 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the melting point. Then it is repeated again and again to burn up the impurities. Each time the heat is turned up higher to bring the impurities to the surface, but not too hot to burn the metal that could destroy the gold. The pure gold sinks to the bottom of the crucible. At the bottom it's collected by the lead where it forms a hard compact "lead button". The other metals and impurities are left behind. If the gold is heated to fast, it will make the gold harder.

God knows what situation that will soften us, remove bad habits, change our thought process and set us free. The softer the gold the purer it is, the easier it is to pound out thinner. The same as our heart. The more God works on us and we allow Him to Change us, the purer our hearts are! Circumstances bring us to our knees so the Holy Spirit can change us and remove impurities from our lives. Change and pressure is always needed to take us to a new place with God. The purer the gold the softer it is. 24 caret gold is soft just how the Holy Spirit likes us. Then we are easily pliable, and our heart is soft towards the Lord.

As Gold goes through a refining process of intense heat of purification, no naked eye could see the impurities even though it looks pure. Those impurities would have shown up later as a break, a fracture or some kind of malfunction. God knows what is needed to break us and when we are ready. It is all in God's timing, not ours. (1 Thes. 2-4) We can't change ourselves.

Sometimes the process is long and refining and painful, but when we pass the test, then we are genuinely ready for what God has for us. Allow God to do His perfect work (James 1:2-8)
